Job Description : Senior Radio Producer | Sports Programming
Job Summary
BYUB Sports and BYUradio are looking for a versatile, organized, highly motivated, story-driven audio producer with a passion for BYU Sports. The Senior Producer will work closely with key members of both the sports production and radio teams to create a robust offering of original sports programming to play as part of a broadcast block on BYUradio and as podcast products that fulfill the needs of a fan-base, hungry for world-class storytelling on and around their favorite subject. The right candidate will build, develop and lead a student team in the creation of great programming in close coordination and collaboration with internal and external talent (both in front of and behind the microphone). The right candidate must be able to propose, develop, shape and produce show concepts that align with BYUB’s strategic imperatives for sports’ coverage on BYUradio and BYUradio’s podcast channels. The right candidate must have exceptional relationship building skills to work productively with BYUB’s sports and radio teams as well as with BYU’s Athletics Department, as well as to work with interview subjects and guests. Above all else, the right candidate must have a passion for delivering the highest quality storytelling possible. The Senior Producer should be a strong manager and coach; a kind, creative and deadline-oriented leader; and have experience running narrative podcasts and working collaboratively in a team environment. This position will build on the success of BYUradio’s current sports programming mix and work to integrate different and innovative types of audio storytelling.
Essential Functions
Lead the Production Team
Coordinate with hosting talent (for both existing and new programming), to formulate and communicate a very clear vision, direction, sound, and standards for the show and its episodes.
Train a student team of producers and operators.
Lead student team in the planning and execution of each episode.
Drive ongoing evaluation and improvement of the show.
In coordination with hosting talent (for both existing and new programming), workshop and greenlight episode ideas, themes and arcs.
Lead communication around production and editorial focus (with an emphasis on the distinct qualities of each show) with marketing, platform relations and other internal and external partners.
Assist key stakeholders in the organization with discoverability efforts, to make the show as easy as possible to find on internal and external platforms and towards continued audience growth.
Foster a creative and productive work environment.
Oversee quality control of each episode.
Manage timely delivery of all show elements.
Project Development
Develop new programming and story for production in coordination with the General Manager of BYUradio and the head of sports programming.
Guide an internal group of student and full-time talent to develop the voice, structure and production process for greenlighted shows.
Work with external talent/producers in shaping and producing greenlighted shows.
Keep on top of trends in sports audio and podcasting.
Seek out and propose innovative ways to grow audience.
Education/Experience
Minimum required: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in audio production and or other forms of storytelling OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ work experience in both audio production and storytelling.

Working knowledge and experience with DAW Software (Adobe Audition, ProTools, etc.)
