The Theatre Department in the Sarofim School of Fine Arts at Southwestern University invites applications for a Scene Shop Manager. Reporting to the Resident Scene Designer and the Theatre Department Chair, this is a 10-month, full-time, in-person professional staff position with benefits. This position is responsible for executing the scenery and properties designs for all Theatre Department stage productions. The Scene Shop Manager will also serve as instructor of record and collaborate with department faculty in supervising the work of students enrolled in Theatre Production Laboratory courses.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising paid students and professional staff in the scene shop; executing scenery construction, rigging, stage properties, and painting; maintaining scene shop and equipment; ordering materials and supplies; serving as instructor of record and supervising the work of students enrolled in Theatre Production Laboratory courses; generating cost estimates, build/paint schedules, and working drawings; managing technical and dress rehearsals in collaboration with the Theatre faculty; participating in department and production meetings; supervising the organization and maintenance of on-campus and off-campus storage areas; coordinating and implementing all applicable safety protocols/tools, including the Material Safety Data inventory and personal protective equipment in collaboration with the Costume Shop Manager.

Position requirements include, but are not limited to: BA or BFA in Technical Theatre; three years of scene shop experience; experience in stage carpentry and rigging, stage properties, and scenic painting preparation; experience teaching theatrical carpentry, rigging, and safety; ability to organize and manage budgets and schedules with spreadsheet and scheduling software; knowledge of vendors, purchasing and inventory procedures; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community; ability to work evenings and weekends during technical and dress rehearsals, performances, and strike.

Preferred position requirements: MA or MFA in Technical Theatre; three years of experience as a Scene Shop Manager or graduate work in a scene shop; experience teaching theatrical carpentry, rigging, etc. in a college setting; and experience as a scene painter.
