Knowledge and experience in accounting and/or office management preferred.Role of the Managing Director: The 1,200 seat Mother Lode Theatre was constructed in 1923 by the Masonic Bodies. In 1929, the theatre was converted into a movie house and leased to various operators through the 1980s. The Butte Center for the Performing Arts reopened the theatre after an extensive renovation. Today the theatre features national, regional, state, and local theatrical performances featuring their signature program: Mother Lode Theatre Series.The Managing Director works in partnership with and reports to the BCPA Board of Directors as the Mother Lode Theatre’s executive representative. The Managing Director serves as the chief financial officer of the Theatre and must exercise responsible stewardship of all resources for the optimum balance of artistic quality, financial strength, and institutional integrity. A ‘hands-on’ approach is necessary to produce well-attended theater events, along with donor engagement. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership skills with a passion for the arts. Significant community engagement, as well as the ability to lead and form teams are requirements. The Managing Director participates in community events, which increases awareness of the Mother Lode Theatre, expands community out-reach, and cultivates new donor/sponsor relationships.The Managing Director is responsible for directing and supervising day-to-day administrative activity and relationships, including:Organizing and implementing all strategic and day-to-day operations of the Theatre, including supervision of staff, volunteers, and contractors. Fosters a culture that values teamwork, collaboration, clear communications, effective delegation, and mutual support.Managing budgeting and fiscal operations of the Theatre, including the preparation and compliance of Federal and State reports in coordination with BCPA accounting firm, payments for employees and contractors, and invoicing for Theatre rental, labor, custodial, and technical fees.Managing booking, scheduling, and coordination of selected events and productions.Developing and executing marketing plans for a cohesive annual publicity campaign, including media communications, press releases, brochure development, and program/playbill design.Assisting BCPA Board of Directors with fundraising events and programs; and managing donor database.Other duties as assigned.Key Competencies: Ability to manage facilities and related venues for arts, film, and music.Knowledge, experience, and appreciation for theatre and arts management.Demonstrated ability to work with additional artistic advisors and/or consultants in the management of the theatre and programming.Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in required field of expertise; preferably with accounting, management, and/or facility coordination background.Experience with marketing practices including, but not limited to media communications, press releases, social media coordination, print, television and radio.Strong written and oral communication skills.Strategic thinking with ability to forecast and communicate business needs.Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, QuickBooks on-line, basic design programs and virtual programming.Flexible to work evenings and weekends, as needed, in support of membership, community outreach, performances, and donor events.Butte Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) Board of Directors: The Managing Director serves as an ex-officio non-voting member of the board of directors, attend all board meetings, contribute to the board meeting agenda, and advise the board on relevant issues. As appropriate, the Managing Director also assists with Board recruitment work in the service of the Mother Lode Theatre.Administration and Supervision: The Managing Director directs full staff administrative operations. The Managing Director works to provide administrative services for the production process, including supervision of human resource functions, licensing and contract negotiations (e.g., performance, cleaning, communications), scheduling, and finance management.Financial Management/Fundraising: The Managing Directors works to protect and maintain all financial and institutional priorities in coordination with accounting firm and Finance Committee. Responsibilities include preparation of the annual budget with the Finance Committee, presentation of financial reports and oversight of all ongoing financial matters. The Managing Director works to implement and support fundraising campaigns, special events, and grant opportunities.Advocacy: The Managing Director will act as the public face of the Mother Lode Theatre.
