We are seeking a dynamic features writer with a dedication to journalism.
The reporter is someone who can generate news-feature stories, including profile pieces on interesting people in Southwest Florida. This position is also for a journalist who brings many tools to the job: someone who can write stories for print and online, occasionally on a tight deadline; a journalist with strong SEO (search engine optimization) skills; someone who understands social media such as creating Instagram stories and sharing them in an informative and fun way; a reporter who feels confident in sometimes taking photos and videos with your phone for a story; and someone who communicates effectively with editors and fellow reporters.
And with two entertainment reporters and two food dining/restaurant journalists on our team, we’re looking for someone to write about the uncovered features stories. On occasion, the reporter hired for this position could be asked to help out with entertainment and food coverage when someone is on vacation. The person hired also would help gather information on upcoming events for calendars and lists, such as what restaurants are open on Thanksgiving and information on December holiday events.
The individual will be an engaging writer who is up for anything – podcasts, videos, innovative storytelling using the latest technologies. That person must move fluidly from big story to small. Candidates need not be from the Fort Myers or Naples areas.
