General Job Description:
Weigel Broadcasting Co. In Chicago seeks Director/Technical Director to join our technical crew for production.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Work with writers and producers in pitch sessions to help craft the narrative story from a production side
Work with talent and producers in rehearsals to develop a creative visual for story lines in production
Setup control room (graphics, video, and routing) to push for a live switch of an episodic production
Build e-mem setups to help with routing for video and graphic playback
Bring visual creativity to an episodic story to help with pacing, comedic timing and visual story telling to drive a piece.
Prep scripts for control room and floor crew.
Direct and switch live to tape episodes with minimal needed editing
Lead production team
Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for the job, if not currently employed by Weigel Broadcasting Co.
Bachelor’s degree in TV or Film style Production or related field
Experience with a production control room including, Xpression, Grass Valley Playout. Grass Valley Switchers, Yahama Audio Consoles, Grass Valley Cameras, telemetric robotic cameras, and iNews beneficial
Experience with full scenic live production lighting and instruments including ETC, Desisti, Chauvet is beneficial
Familiarity with non-automated control room switching is required
Candidate must exhibit the ability learn all components of the control room to ensure quality standards; exhibit the ability to troubleshoot issues; adapt quickly to change; and make good judgments in tense situations.
The ideal candidate must be a proactive communicator, contributor and team player.
Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure and in situations requiring last minute decisions on a daily basis.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience directing live news is a must.
