Military.com is looking for a Content Writer/Editor to join our team. This person will take ownership of an array of Military.com’s informative and seasonal content while leading the charge on what daily news and content is included in the site’s weekly newsletter products received by the military and veteran communities. This editor/writer will source or write and publish new informational content across site sections while updating and managing previously published content, focusing energy on topic needs created by seasonality or current events. Develop a strategy for content selection for over a dozen newsletter products, working closely with the analytics team to find the perfect nexus of giving readers what they need and making the newsletter products a success.

The ideal candidate will have a keen news sense, understanding what makes a story or piece of content important, good, or interesting. They will have an eye for detail and a drive to make news and content that is appealing because it is useful or entertaining (or both) and entirely accurate. They will be willing to not just choose content for the newsletters but dedicate themselves to understanding what should be in each newsletter product to lead it to success. Collegiality and integrity are also a must: we’re a tight-knit, collaborative team that works hard to gain and maintain the trust of the military community with balanced, accurate and useful news and information. While previous knowledge of the military or veteran community is not required, it is a plus.

Responsibilities:
Oversee informational and seasonal content across Military.com

Work closely with Military.com’s executive editor, news team, analytics team and marketing section to coordinate content strategy and priorities

Coordinate and compile content for Military.com newsletters

Source, coordinate or write new content for information sections

Update content landing pages based on news and seasonality

Requirements:
5+ years as a reporter or editor at an online news publication

Experience copy-editing

Excellent writing skills

Understanding of SEO principles and best practices

Ability to learn and become proficient in content management systems

Passion for innovation and continuous process improvement

Knowledge of newsletter content best practices and processes

Knowledge and understanding of AP style

Bachelor’s Degree or higher

Deadline-oriented and comfortable multi-tasking

Comfortable in a remote work environment and able to work autonomously
