This position works with wood, plastic laminate, metal, and varying materials to construct creative exhibition pieces.We are in a high-end custom manufacturing industry, fabricating structures using wood, metal, plastics and many composites. The successful candidate should understand key elements of construction using these components and should be experienced in carpentry, cabinet building, design, and knowledgeable in metal construction. We work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment so the ideal candidate will need to hit the ground running while producing high quality product right from the start.This position requires a versatile, skilled fabricator and finisher with a demonstrated ability to complete work with the highest attention to detail. The exhibit fabricator must bring to life creative conceptual and technical elements which are durably built to withstand the rigors of our interactive environment. The employee must give particular consideration to the craftsmanship, process, durability, and efficiency of this position and work within those parameters.This is a full-time position.Essential Duties:Participate in the planning, production, and installation of select exhibitions and related activities. Create and install various unique components for exhibitions and themed enviornments, including fixtures, furniture, and other functional or design elements. Work with designers to interpret and execute project ideas using innovative techniques and materials.Mockup prototypes of concepts to determine functionality and feasibility of plans and ideas. Use hand tools, power tools, and fabricating equipment, including operating metal and plastic-forming equipment.Read and interpret specifications in blueprints, drawings, and sketches to prepare project layouts and determine dimensions and materials required for fabrication. Create and source materials necessary for production of components, as needed.Confer with exhibit designers to discuss developmental problems and to recommend component modifications.Evaluate components and rework or alter component model or parts as required to ensure they meet exhibit and safety standards. Cooperate with the director of exhibit production and quality assurance to approve final designs.Use appropriate tools and equipment for measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling materials.Set up and operate machines, including power saws, CNC, jointers, planers, tenoners, molders, or shapers, to machine materials for fabrication.Use CAD/CAM software or hardware to fabricate parts.Fit and align fabricated parts to be welded or assembled using bolts, screws, glue, or other adhesives.Finish exhibit pieces using paint, laminate paneling, or other protective or decorative finishes.Install exhibit structures and fixtures on schedule and with the highest quality workmanship.Ensure efficient and safe operation of machinery and equipment by completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing all equipment malfunctions.Minimum Requirements:Experience in studio, exhibit, display cabinet or furniture manufacturingBackground in Finish CarpentryCollaborates with Sales, Planning, Design and Detailing department personnel to determine optimal build and finish methodsHighly motivated and high level of initiative’ confidence to work independently and with a team in support of project goals and objectives.Some out of state travel may be requiredHigh school or trade school diploma or certification.Experience in concept drawing, woodworking, metalworking, construction or contracting, or related experience.Must be able to read CAD drawings.Experience manipulating materials by hand in a sculptural/artistic fashion.Experience with a variety of finish applications including but not limited to paint, lacquer, and laminating techniques.Basic understanding of wiring and simple low voltage electrical systems.Possession of a valid Utah driver’s license.These qualifications are considered a plus:Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, architectural interior design, furniture design, or related field or equivalent experience.Experience with Fusion 360, Sketchup, and Vectorworks.Familiarity with CNC processes and CAD/CAM software for component machining.Professional experience at a museum of similar size.REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/WORK ETHIC:Works well in a team environmentVersatility & willingness to assist other departments within the companyAptitude in arithmetic, calculations, measurements and problem solvingAbility to work overtime and weekends as neededAdheres to company safety guidelinesStrong record of reliable attendance and punctualityFinal candidate must consent to and successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check as conditions of employment.Job Types: Full-timeBenefits:Paid time offWork Location: One locationJob Type: Full-timePay: From $20.00 per hourBenefits:Paid time offSchedule:Monday to FridaySupplemental Pay:Bonus payWork Location: One location |
