Position Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of seven stations, with a weekly cume of 400,000 listeners.

Position Summary
Reporting: The Daily News Editor reports to WUNC’s News Director.

The Position: The Daily News Editor supervises and manages WUNC’s team of daily news reporters and producers. They assign and edits daily news stories. These include interviews, spots, and quick-turn features. The Daily News Editor is part of the news leadership team and works with the News Director in setting the agenda for WUNC’s news service to listeners and readers. They will also be called in to assist in managing breaking news coverage. The position includes working closely with the station’s anchor/hosts who report to the Program Director.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The Daily News Editor will be an experienced broadcast producer and a proven news leader with strong management, production, editorial, and communication skills.

At least five years of experience as a journalist and/or radio producer, with increasing responsibility in each successive position.

Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators.

Demonstrated ability to manage colleagues effectively and collaboratively.

Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Creativity and initiative.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience at a listener-supported public radio station or network preferred.
Experience with public radio or related not-for-profit fundraising preferred.
At least two years of management and supervisory experience preferred.
A familiarity with North Carolina’s issues preferred.
