Founded in 1891, Walker Memorial is a historic congregation located in the U Street Corridor in Northwest, Washington, D.C., and is committed to impacting our community through application and implementation of the teaching of Jesus Christ.POSITION SUMMARYThe primary responsibility of the Worship Leader will be to plan and lead Spirit-based and heartfelt worship through music for each service. This may include, but is not limited to, prayers, words of encouragements, and praise and exhortations during worship. The Worship Leader will be responsible for strategizing, planning, and implementing songs and musical selections that are in line with the Pastor, Music Ministry and Walker Memorial’s overall vision. The Worship Leader will also be responsible for helping to grow the Walker Memorial’s music ministry.Desired QualificationsCandidates must have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and must demonstrate the reality of that relationship through their life and testimony. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years relevant experience as a worship leader and be proficient in music and leading worship, with strong vocal capability for wide range of music styles, including traditional and contemporary worship music. A minimum of a GED or high school diploma is required.Other Skills and Abilities The ideal candidate will have Spirit-led attributes, including:Superior communication skillsCreative, confident, hard worker, and a self-starterExcellent decision makerStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to today’s youth cultureWork efficiently and effectively in team situationsPossess a passion and heartfelt concern worship and the music ministryPossess the ability to motivate othersPleasant disposition and works well with othersKnowledge of presentation software, such as PowerPoint and ProPresenter, and skill at finding and securing music and videos that will enhance worshipExperience with social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.Principle Duties and ResponsibilitiesContinue to grow and mature in Christ as a godly person of integrity, with a strong sense of calling and ability to disciple others in ChristMaintain a strong prayer base for worship and music ministryProvide leadership, vision, and passion for WMBC Music MinistryCoordinate with Pastor and Director of Music to create well-planned worship and special servicesSelect and recommend new music selections for worship and special servicesLead worship services through song, including leading worship/praise team and choirs in music selections during worship and special servicesMust participate in weekly rehearsals, and lead rehearsals (as necessary)Coordinate and provide audio/visual teams with what is needed for all services (music, lyrics, videos, etc.)Recruit, equip, grow, and motivate members for WMBC music ministryRecommend and help implement creative ideas for developing a vibrant worship experienceMust work with all people from children to senior citizensAttend: (1) monthly Leadership Fellowship meeting with the Pastor; (2) staff meetings when scheduled; and (3) frequently participate on opportunities for spiritual growth at WMBC through Bible study, morning prayer, church school, or discipleship classes, etc.Actively participate in the life and ministry of WMBCOther duties as assigned by the Pastor or Director of MusicEither currently is a member of, or willing to join the Walker Memorial Baptist Church fellowshipPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
