Job Description : | Job Description: THE OPPORTUNITY Senior Production Editor oversees production of 50-60 graphic novels and select illustrated chapter book titles per year, which are simultaneously published in paperback, hardcover, and ebook formats, and some in school market, proprietary, and/or advance galleys editions. Responsible for assessing and assigning freelancers, as needed, for copyediting and proofreading of manuscripts and illustrations. Checks for quality assurance of text and illustrations, and covers all stages from manuscript & sketches to finished books. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Handles book production from copyedit/sketch phase through bound book, including bound galleys (where applicable) and ebooks Reviews copyedit and passes (assess freelancer work as needed) of covers and interior layouts, sketches, and final artwork Answer copyedit/proofreader/editor queries when possible Keep series style sheets updated and enforce house style and art continuity Carefully review materials (manuscripts, art, covers/jackets) and traffic them through various in-house departments Work closely with creative, editorial, and manufacturing departments on all aspects of a book Work with Associate Production Director to create and maintain schedules and Follow up with editorial/design when deadlines are missed Lead bimonthly status meetings, and attend various other meetings as needed Work with Associate Production Director to troubleshoot, solve problems, and improve workflows WHO WE ARE Scholastic Corporation (NASDAQ: SCHL) is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, a leading provider of core literacy curriculum and professional services, and a producer of educational and entertaining children’s media.
