Job Description : Position: Orchestra Director (part-time)Reports to: Lower School Director and Middle and Upper School DirectorJob Summary: CIS is a college-preparatory, independent school of 395 students JK-12. The focus of the curriculum is to provide an individualized educational experience for each student. Class sizes are intentionally small in order to facilitate high quality teaching and mentorship. Candidates should have an interest in innovative teaching, a desire to build strong working relationships with students, and a commitment to incorporating global perspectives into curriculum. This requires a deep understanding of the principles of music education, as well as a love for the subject that can be transferred to students of various ages, abilities and interests. As a member of the Fine ArtsDepartment, the Orchestra Director (part-time) will teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced orchestra students in grades 2-12. Orchestra rehearsals occur in the morning prior to the school day. Working as a music teacher at Columbia Independent School requires a wide variety of abilities but also offers a very rewarding experience.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct beginning, intermediate, and advanced orchestrasWork with Fine Arts Department Chair on maintaining and updating curriculumWork with students on an individual basis (as needed) outside of classPrepare students at least two annual concerts, in addition to other performance opportunitiesProvide regular feedback (written and verbal) to both students and parentsUpdate course pages and electronic grade books regularlyPrepare progress reports and meet with parents for conferences each semesterCollaborate with other departments on cross-curricular connectionsSupport the Columbia Independent School missionOther Duties: Take attendance on a daily basisAttend school-related functions, when appropriate, to support studentsParticipate in professional development opportunities, as applicableModel life-long learningAssist to inventory and maintain school instruments and music supplies as neededServe as an ambassador for the school at Open Houses and other admissions or public relations activitiesQualifications: Bachelor’s degree in music or music educationTeaching experience preferredCommitment to the success of each studentProven collaborator and team memberInnovative and optimistic thinkerInterested candidates should submit a Letter of Interest and a Resume via email Job Types: Part-time, ContractSchedule:Monday to FridayAbility to commute/relocate:Columbia, MO 65202: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)Education:Bachelor’s (Required)Work Location: One location
