PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager of University Affairs, Ceremonies, and Events, the Multimedia Production Specialist/Video Producer is responsible for all event technical aspects, including department managed facilities and spaces, virtual or hybrid event spaces for events held on or off-campus as well as university-wide events as well as other assigned auxiliary buildings. This position includes setup, breakdown, maintenance, repair, and operation of department equipment, and requires scheduling flexibility including evening and weekend hours as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Leads and provides technical services for in-person, virtual and hybrid university multimedia and digital production and support of presentations, events, meetings, live streams, webinars, zoom presentations and others. Including all videotaping and editing services; research, pre-production, production, post production and distribution. Also includes, but not limited to multimedia, live to air, live to tape, tape to air, taping, editing and presenting events/meetings online/virtually on campus and at other venues as assigned.

Attends, coordinates and may lead production meetings, provides input and advises on schedules, crews and technical operations.
Acts as technical liaison between the Senior Manager and staff, producers, presenters, committee members as well as internal and external clientele.
Leads, coordinates and provides technical production services and requirements for assigned virtual performances and presentations via various platforms including social media.
Collaborates and provides services to the campus, departments, staff, faculty, artists, presenters, production teams and others on virtual technical service.
Coordinates and provides virtual technical services for the department and events as needed and assigned.
Coordinates the pre-production preparations, production, post production for virtual events, presentations, productions and technical rehearsals
Provides lead direction to technical staff and student assistants.

2. Implements design and technical production requirements for events/meetings live and taped in department managed facilities and other venues.

Collaborates with campus and external stakeholders/clients on production technical needs.
Coordinates and provides technical services for department managed facilities and other venues and events spaces as needed and directed.
Coordinates the pre-production preparations for events, presentations and productions.
Coordinates technical rehearsals for events/meetings/presentations.
Assists with the coordination and preparation of the department managed facilities and other venues workloads, staffing and production schedules.
Enforces department managed facilities rules and policies, as well as school and state safety regulations.
Coordinates event procedure with department Coordinators, Analysts, and other department team members.
Responsible for developing and producing assigned video productions, including script writing scripts, researching information, capturing and editing, planning staffing and equipment needs as well as implementing all elements of a video project.

3. Tracks live and virtual events, presentations and production budgets, resources and schedules as appropriate. Maintains inventory and incident data.

Alerts producer/presenters, department managers and staff members to potential problems and secures formal approval, in advance, for all budget increases and/or changes.
Prepares event documentation production report including facility use, equipment uses, crew time and general subjective event review.
Maintains incident and injury logs.
Maintains inventory of all department technical equipment, coordinates repairs, replacement and/or maintenance. Researches new equipment options by following technology industry standards, developments, trends and best practices in the industry and higher education. Makes recommendations on needed equipment and supplies.
Creates a budget for costs associated with needed equipment repairs, replacement, maintenance and/or additions needed to best serve the campus community. Regularly communicates equipment budget needs information to the Senior Manager.

4. Provides facility oversight and special projects assignments. Designs and implements event and performance technical needs at department managed facilities and other venues/events as assigned.

Performs a wide variety of electrical, event space lighting, audio, video, projections, digital equipment, stagecraft and carpentry work for all department managed facilities and other venues as assigned, including setup and breakdown of AV equipment for individual events.
Monitors the technical and mechanical system in all department managed facilities and alerts appropriate person(s) in the event of a system malfunction.
Develops technical procedures and guidelines for all department managed facilities and other venues as assigned.
Needs may include but not limited to event and virtual space/stage event lighting design, scenery, audio, video, projections and facility needs. Provides oversight of all production crews on stage and event venues.
Provides lead work direction and training to student assistants. Oversees crew schedules and assures that timesheets are completed in a timely manner. Provides input on interviewing, hiring and training of new production crew as needed.
Gives the crew call for all events, presentations and productions.

Other Functions:
Actively participates in department meetings, training programs, collaborations, retreats and planning sessions.
Promotes and maintains an atmosphere of excellent internal and external customer service.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of production theory, principles and techniques as they apply to multimedia. Foundation background in communication theory and instructional design and development. Strong skills in production, project and budget management. Demonstrated consulting skills to work with faculty and staff to develop productions that meet stated objectives.

Ability to quickly research and incorporate subject matter expertise to provide production direction and enhance the quality of productions. Ability to produce and broadcast live productions. Ability to critique and evaluate work in progress for instructional design and impact. Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex communication problems. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of productions. Demonstrated ability to effectively provide technical and aesthetic leadership and work direction to others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Entry into this classification requires a basic knowledge of and skill in graphics, still or motion photography, or television production. This knowledge and skill normally is obtained through a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least six months of experience in still and motion picture photography, including a thorough knowledge of video production techniques

SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a theater, school, and the performing arts fields.

Experience supporting live performance in stagecraft, audio, stage lighting and multimedia/projections.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

Due to the nature of the position, ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. Technical fluency with word processing, Google mail and calendaring programs, and 25Live scheduling platform; technical fluency with lighting control systems, audio systems, rigging and scenery knowledge and experience, projection and PowerPoint operation, Zoom webinar, and familiarity with broadcast to YouTube, Facebook Live and other social media platforms as well as stage and production equipment general operation and troubleshooting ability.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.

There are components of this job which are deemed essential on campus. This position will primarily work on the main campus, with occasional work from home.
