Required Skills
The Mastering Technician masters and quality checks the Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) that are distributed to IMAX theaters worldwide. This includes anything from the original version DCP that is distributed domestically, to dubbed and subtitled DCPs which are distributed to IMAX’s many international markets. The Trailers and Features Mastering teams master on average a few hundred unique DCPs per month. Please note working hours are Sunday 6am to 3pm and Monday – Thursday 9am to 6pm.

What you’ll be doing:

The Mastering Technician is primarily responsible for mastering DCPs and their localized subtitled or dubbed versions for both domestic and international markets.
The Mastering Technician will also need to perform quality checks on mastered DCPs to ensure they have all required elements and uphold the IMAX standard. Elements can include subtitles, dubbed audio, accessibility tracks, or localized picture.
Additionally, the Mastering Technician will support the IMAX Post team by assisting in the troubleshooting and resolution DCP related issues experienced at any of IMAX’s theaters worldwide.
Participate in regular meetings with the Trailers Post team and collaborate in discussions on workflow improvements and problem solving
Perform other administrative duties and projects as assigned
The position’s shift is Monday – Friday, 2pm – 11pm

What we’re looking for:

Familiarity with post-production environments is ideal. This includes basic knowledge of the DI (digital intermediate) process including video editing, video compression & container formats, theatrical aspect ratios, and coloring, as well as basic knowledge of audio workflows and data management.
Experience and understanding of Quality Control to detect variations from IMAX’s high quality and industry standards.
The ability to manage, consolidate, and prioritize a large amount of data is vital.
The ability to work with studio or theater clients to resolve any emergency DCP issues.
A self-starter with a strong work ethic, detail oriented, adaptable and a team player who can work well with others and involve them in making critical decisions
Experience with digital cinema mastering is a plus but not necessary.
Experience with Linux, Bash & shell scripting, or Python is also a plus but not necessary.
Experience with the SMPTE 428-7 subtitle standard is a plus but not necessary.
The position requires overtime when necessary.
Bachelor’s degree preferred
