Job Description : Do you want the ability to not just perform your craft, but really live it? This is what we do each day in our 17th-century English Village. Educate, enlighten, and engage a diverse audience of all ages through a timed, semi-scripted, semi-improved, interactive experience. Take on the role of a real person, learn who they were, and invite guests to explore a day in the life of a Pilgrim.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform five days a week, in our timed, semi-scripted, immersive experience portraying a historical figure in 17th-Century Plymouth Colony. This production will usually occur several times a day, in an outdoor (non-climate controlled) environment.Engage and interact with a diverse audience of all ages throughout the performanceImprovise in character based on the reactions of audience members while successfully completing all required blocking, lines, and performance cues.Provide a friendly and welcoming presence for all guests and coworkers throughout the MuseumAttend rehearsals, training sessions and meetings as requested by the supervisor.Memorize lines, blocking, and relevant historical information.Take & implement notes given by the Museum Theater Manager or Assistant Manager.Collaborate with other Historical Performers as part of an ensemble cast.Participate in additional acting performances/shows including but not limited to 1 person shows, scripted dining experiences and online performances for schools and other groups. (these will be assigned with as much advance notice as possible)Maintain proper use and care of props, costumes and scenic design.Adhere to the policies of Plimoth Patuxet Museums as outlined in the Museum Employee manual and current job description.Other duties as assignedThis outline description focuses on the primary duties of the position. Management reserves the right to revise this job description from time to time as needed.REQUIRED SKILLS:Flexible, resilient and growth mindsetFluent in English & ability to pick up on/learn dialects.Able to deliver an engaging, consistent performance multiple times a dayPerforming in an outdoor environment where the weather may be unpredictableHave an understanding of immersive theatre, improvisation, and the theatrical process as a whole.Great at problem-solving in the momentCan enjoy learning history, dialect, hands-on activities, etc…An interest in learning and performing period music and dances.Have an engaging and creative personality with excellent interpersonal skills.A positive, can-do attitude and sense of humor is essentialReliability, dependability and punctualityFluency in English, strong verbal skills, and ability to communicate clearly and engagingly with guests and colleagues.Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.Must be able to read and understand a variety of historical and educational sources.WORK ENVIRONMENT:The workplace is not climate controlled. This position requires primarily outdoor work with some minimal moments working indoors. When outdoors, it can sometimes be in adverse climatic conditions. Work may be performed in dusty and smoky environments; in poorly lit areas; near open fires. The noise level in the workplace varies from quiet to loud.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be available to work Saturdays, Sundays and some holidays. Typical hours are 9:00am – 5:00pm, five days a week through the end of November. Flexibility in work hours and days off is required. This position will include working additional night/weekend hours or days as needed; these will be primarily in October & November.QUALIFICATIONS:A high school diploma or equivalent is required.Minimum of two years of acting experience. This may include high school, college or community theatre performances.Experience with improv, immersive theatre, and devised theatre strongly preferredExperience playing an instrument, singing, and dancing strongly preferredExperience in theatre education and passion for history preferredExperience working with the public or customer service is essential.We are casting roles to portray both men and women. Actors must be able to realistically portray Mayflower passengers and other known early inhabitants of Plymouth Colony.
