Job Description : To perform in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner, a combination of duties mainly related, but not limited to, check-in and checkout of guests which contributes to an overall positive experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
Greets, registers, and assigns rooms to guests.
Issues room key and escort instructions to Bell person or directly to guest as appropriate.
Date-stamps, sorts, and racks incoming mail and messages.
Transmits and receives messages using equipment such as telephone, fax, and switchboard.
Answers inquiries pertaining to hotel services, registration of guests and shopping, dining, entertainment and travel directions.
Keeps records of room availability and guests’ accounts.
Computes bill, collects payment and makes change for guests.
May make, confirm, and cancel reservations for guests.
May post charges such as room, food, liquor, or telephone by hand or machine.
May make restaurant, transportation, or entertainment reservations for guests.
May deposit guests’ valuables in hotel safe or safe-deposit box.
May order complimentary flowers or champagne for special guests.
May rent dock space at marina-hotel.
All other duties as assigned by a manager or supervisor.
Skills and Abilities:
Speak clearly and listen carefully.
Use personal judgment and specialized knowledge to give information to people.
Communicate well with many different kinds of people.
Change easily and frequently from one activity to another such as from typing to interviewing, to searching in a directory, to using a telephone.
Use eyes, hands, and fingers accurately while operating a switchboard or computer keyboard.
Physical Demands: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Geometry: Calculate plane and solid figures, circumference, area, and volume. Understand kinds of angles, and properties of pairs of angles.
Language Development: Reading: Read and understand instructions, safety rules, etc. Writing: Write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Speaking: Speak with poise, voice control, and confidence, using correct English and well-modulated voice.
Data: Compiling: Gathering, collating, or classifying information about data, people or things. Reporting and/or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to information is frequently involved.
People: Speaking-Signaling: Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to helpers or assistants.
Things: Handling: Using body members, hand tools, and/or special devices to work, move, or carry objects or materials. Involves little or no latitude for judgment with regard to attainment of standards or in selecting appropriate tool, object or material.
Specific Vocational Preparation:
Specific Vocational Preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of: vocational education, apprentice training, in-plant training, on-the-job training, or essential experience in less responsible jobs which lead to the higher job or serving in other jobs.
