Overview and Responsibilities:
The Kids and Family Entertainment Group is seeking a hardworking Business and Legal Affairs Counsel to join our team! You will provide day-to-day services across multiple business lines with a focus on short form production for on air and digital distribution.

Negotiating, creating, and drafting a high volume of production-related agreements, including contracts with production companies, creative content and equipment vendors, and talent. Responsibilities will also include counseling clients in connection with promotional campaigns, stunts and specials, as well as live events and experiential activations.
Handling day-to-day legal matters for production-related projects and live events (including counseling clients on appropriate deal parameters, reviewing scripts and cuts as necessary, drafting and negotiating appearance releases, location releases and helping to ensure clients and vendors adhere to accurate Covid protocols). Ability to issue spot and advise on legal issues, while understanding and furthering business objectives.
Advising on intellectual property and content clearance issues for trailers/promos, print and online advertising, and other promotional content. Experience with children’s labor laws and online privacy is also helpful.
Partnering with other in-house groups (including Production, Marketing, Labor & Employment, Risk Management, Litigation, and Finance) on a variety of legal issues, deal-making strategies, and corporate policies.
Participating in and contributing to strategic deal discussions as well as researching business and legal issues. Providing practical risk assessment, risk reduction solutions, and conflict resolution strategies for production and creative executives.
Performing other day-to-day legal and business affairs-related tasks as needed and assigned by senior legal executive.

Basic Qualifications:
Member in good standing of the New York and/or California Bar(s) (or eligible for Registered In-House Counsel designation).
At least 3 years transferable experience (ideally with business/legal affairs experience in a network, studio, entertainment law firm or production company environment), including contract drafting and negotiation and counseling.
Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and organizational skills.

Additional Qualifications:
Strong ability to analyze fact patterns and devise creative solutions that allow network executives to implement their creative vision in compliance with corporate policies and guidelines, while minimizing risk.
Must be able to multi-task under pressure, handle a varied, high-volume workload efficiently, and operate independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to build strong internal client relationships and generate client happiness through quick turnaround and firm decision-making.
The ideal candidate should be proficient in entertainment industry customs and practices and possess proven ability to effectively negotiate and interact with agents, managers and outside attorneys.
Working knowledge of television industry agreements, guild and union regulations (WGA, DGA and SAG-AFTRA), contract law and intellectual property rights (as applicable to the entertainment industry).
