JOB DESCRIPTION
The FOX Sports team in Charlotte, NC is looking for a freelance entry level engineer to support the technical operations of live sporting events and studio shows distributed across a variety FOX’s platforms. In this role, you will ensure all audio/video systems are functioning properly and support the production department’s use of the equipment. This is a support role to live television productions so shifts follow the events and shows – incumbent must be able to work some nights and weekends.
SNAPSHOT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate daily with engineers and production department to support live programming- including College Football/Basketball remote productions and NASCAR Race Day and Race Hub studio shows
Troubleshoot issues with broadcast systems such as – HDSDI and IP routers and switchers; Audio consoles and network; Intercom systems; Digital asset management system; Virtual set systems and cameras; and Multi-view monitor systems
Collaborate with vendors and open trouble tickets with customer support
Open RMA to return equipment to a vendor/s
Repair or replace equipment as needed
Works with Director and VP of Engineering to plan and implement projects
Research and specification of vendor/hardware/software
Installation and configuration of system or solution
Create and update drawings and documentation to reflect current systems and workflows
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Ability to work some nights and weekends
Knowledge of audio/video routing systems, signal distribution and processing
Ability to identify signal parameters and troubleshoot issues using test equipment including video waveform, audio metering, network and transport stream analyzers, variety of cable testers
Knowledge of satellite and compression systems – receivers, dish control systems, encoders, multiplexers, encryption, and decryption equipment
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with different groups of people including management, peers, operators, and vendors
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills are critical
Ability to function in a dynamic environment
Capability to triage problems in a fast-paced environment and prioritize
NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Broadcast, or IT
Experience in live television or post-production environment
Knowledge of broadcast and production systems – Sony and Ross switchers, Calrec audio consoles and hydra network, Vizrt, Dalet, Adobe CC, Front Porch Digital DIVA archive, Aspera and Signiant products, RTS and Riedel intercom, Evertz EQX, EXE, MVP, VIP with magnum control, DreamCatcher and EVS playback, Reality Engine and ZeroDensity virtual set software
